The Dentist Sucks

November 4th, 2008 by Mykal

So it has been about 10 years since I’ve been to the Dentist.  It’s not that I’m afraid of the dentist, but my mom had some problems getting health insurance for us when she was just a temp for several jobs.  During my junior year of high school she started a full-time job that promised health insurance for her and the family.  Now I have no excuse, except for the fact I was lazy and was hoping my mom would take care of everything with finding a dentist for me and just let me know my scheduled date.  That never happened, so I never went during that time.

Now that I have an awesome job at Dreamhost, I have full health benefits which gives me a wonderful opportunity to find out why the hell my teeth hurt so bad from eating just about anything.  After figuring out who my dentist was I finally made an appointment and took some sick time to have a check up.  I came in pretty confident as I hate to brag, but I have been in the “No Cavity Club” six years in a row as a little kid.  After having some x-rays done and waiting in a room for about 30 minutes the doctor came and introduced himself and instantly told me that I have some serious problems.  He then says “You have to promise me that you’ll commit to fixing this problem right away.”  I start getting frustrated because I just want to know what is the problem.  He then continues to ask me to commit.  Finally I get pissed off and ask to see another doctor that won’t act retarded with telling me what the hell is wrong with me.

After they bring in another doctor, he explains to me that I need 7 fillings and three root canals.  After rechecking certain teeth based of the x-ray they present me with an invoice around $3500.  After looking over the invoice I notice that this including just the price of the most basic crowns they can give me…ouch!  Luckily my work around that time was switching to a new provider and it might promise better prices for some of this work.  I waited to have the work done after comparing the different plans and it turns out to be the same price, but now I am getting better crowns with gold!  Woohoo!

I went to dentist for weeks after weeks never stopping.  Getting a whole bottom right/left or top right/left side done of scaling, or fillings.  Some days I would finally get a root canal which I found two to be painless and one to be absolutely painful.

That root canal was a bitch.  The specialist started drilling and instantly I started cursing in pain.  She was surprised since she barely started and asked me to stay calm for 10 seconds and then she would numb me more.  I tried my best not to move around and curse as she drilled for those long 10 seconds.  Finally she said “alright, this is going to hurt for 5 seconds, but it’s the worse it can get and then you’ll be able to breeze through this!”  She gave me a shot in my tooth on my nerve!  Holy shit did that hurt!  I tried my best not to curse but couldn’t help it.  After she was done with the shot a lady came in asking me to please stop cursing as it was upsetting other patients, even in the waiting room.

After getting my third root canal was done (painless) the specialist looked at my x-rays and said that she missed a spot on that second root canal!  I began to get worried after the last time she fucked around with that tooth.  She only numbed around the tooth a little because she said it wouldn’t take long and that she just needed to make one drill.  She drilled and instantly I was in pain.  She said she could numb me again, but I begged her not to do that again.  I fought through the pain and she ended up drilling a total of three times instead of one like she said.  She said “you hate me now, but you’ll love me later.”

Presently, I still need two crowns, more scaling and then I’m done!  I have an appointment today which is just prepare for the two crowns and that’s it.  I have today off as well which I originally was going to hang out with one of my good friends Christina at Disneyland, but things didn’t work out with her coming to California from Arizona.  I should go to the dentist and then come home to clean my apartment, but I might just come into work because of how busy we are with a new project.

Moving Out!

June 22nd, 2008 by Mykal

Don’t get me wrong, living with roommates is awesome:

Roommate revenge!

But a house can get quite messy with more than three guys living in the same house:

Not Kidding!

Yeah, sick I know!  I honestly don’t use the kitchen though, I always eat out.  So what kind of place can beat this?

Anything! My own place, that’s what.  I move in here on the 28th:

But I noticed it takes quite a bit of work and money:

  1. Pack
  2. Move everything to the new place.
  3. Get Internet
  4. Get Gas
  5. Get water
  6. Get electricity
  7. Buy a new couch
  8. Buy a new tv
  9. Buy a new refridgerator
  10. Buy a new desk

The couch I have in mind is the movie lounger from Love Sac.

Looks very big and kick ass for sitting on when play my xbox 360 for a while.  Not sure on what type of tv is good nowadays with all the HD 1080p whatchama-call-its out there.  I’m just happy I will be able to play my games again.  Games nowadays expect a high resolution HD-TV which makes it impossible for me to read the text of my mission on a low resolution tv.

I will finally be upgrading from a matress on the ground twin-size to a queen size with an actual frame!  Oh boy, making more money rocks.

Trying This Again…

June 21st, 2008 by Mykal

Hello everyone! Going to try this blogging thing again that I seem to slip out of every time because of having no time. I have a weekend to myself while the girl is out and lots of time to spare so what better way to waste time BLOGGING.

I’m now working at the web hosting company Dreamhost.com as a developer and love it.

The people are great:

That be one of them.

The Money is great:

Style...all about a cramped hummer limo style!

The Catering every Friday is awesome:

And last but not least, the company motto:

But believe me, it’s not all fun and games:

I spent about an hour a day doing this. This photo was by Jason Cosper (boogah)

I spend seven hours and thirty minutes staring at something awful forums nothing but code in hopes clean up our system one day at a time and produce two-three new features every month. We mainly code in perl, but there are some areas that are in PHP. I have been with the company for 1.5 years and shall continue the awesomeness and have a taco.
